I’m all for counter culture and youth rebellion but having these clowns slowly rip up and down quiet family neighborhoods at 2 in the morning intentionally revving their engines in order to wake everyone up hardly helps me lend a sympathetic ear.

Hi Mariusz, yes, the real-life experience of the bosozoku can be quite annoying. I guess my thoughts here are more about the way the subculture has become an icon independent of the lived experience. Let me know if you'd like to write something for Japanese Modernity!
